Week 12/13

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS V

I woke up this morning with a very strong burden in my heart to pray for Nigeria. You will agree with me considering all that is happening in the nation that there is need for divine intervention. It has never been this worst and we need to cry to God for help. I will encourage my friends from other countries to please join us in praying for this nation too. We are going to be praying together; please for just a moment, leave whatever you are doing and let us pray. Preferably you can get a partner and if you are a CEO, your staff could join you. We are going to pray with the whole of our heart three simple prayers:
1. We are helpless as a Nation, and men has failed us, God we turn to you today, help us we pray Thee.
2. Every enemy of Nigeria, receive the judgment of God today, irrespective of your age or status.
3. Lastly, we will pray a two in one pray; O God of creation, remove by your power every individuals with old or death brains in the affair of Government at all levels (local, state and federal). God, in your infinity mercy raise for us selfless leaders in Nigeria. (Amen)

It’s well with Nigeria and all that seek her good shall prosper. You can write out those prayer points; pray with your family and it could also be raise at our various place of worship. God bless you as you do so and God blessed Nigeria.
I want to encourage us to keep hope alive, Nigeria will survive and our dear nation will be great. Always think of what you can contribute to the nation, let each of us, Government, Capitalist and every citizen talk less (we talk too much this days) and take some action steps that will move Nigeria forward. Remember, in Nation Building, everybody is import and has a role to play, including a child. Start playing your role today; read my post on “Values That Transform Nations” to find out how.

This week, we will be looking at the last P of Success under this series. I’ve have received load of mails and words of appreciation from different part of the world on the Five Ps of Success for the first four Ps that had been shared. And it a great joy for that my blog is inspiring people from time to time to accomplish their dream(s) and be more successful, because that’s the purpose for which it was created. The Fifth P of Success is “People Skills.”

PEOPLE SKILLs- the Fifth P of Success

Developing people’s skill is vital to achieving success in anything. You will never be able to rise above what the level of your people’s skill will allow. John Maxwell, leadership expert and author rightly observed, “If you have not learned to get along with people, you will always be fighting a battle to succeed.” When you develop people skills, it will take you further by far than any other skills you develop. I’m yet to see any self made individual and just as Melinda Gate once stated, “If you are successful, it is because someone gave you a life or an idea that started you off in the right direction.” We will always need the help of people at one point or the other to move further in life. This is why you need to learn to build healthy relationship with people.

A certain organization was conducting an election for the appointment of a new president sometimes ago. Two of the management staff who were the main contestants for the position were having a tie after the vote had been counted. This created a need for one of the drivers to cast the ‘golden vote’ and at that point everyone believe one of the contestants, a woman very strict and principled will loose out. But to the amazement of all, the driver ca
stes the golden vote for her. What happen is this; unknown to them, she has been showing noting but kindness to the driver. Each time he drive her around, she will insist on stopping by at the driver house and give money and gifts to his wife and children, which always help the low salary earner to maintain his family and the driver had always look forward for an opportunity to repay her kindness. The woman never at any point imagine it that the driver (small rat) could ever help her (big lion) one day. There is no limit to how far developing people skills can take you.

Always remember, it will always be difficult to get a head in life, if you can’t get alone with people. You can’t do it alone, you need people and they will not just come to you, you will have to attract them. There are several people skills that one can develop, but I will only share with us five fundamental ones. Develop them and you will always enjoy the help of others.

5 Very Important People Skills You Must Develop To Succeed

1. Leadership Skill : leaders do not just show the way but go the way. You often hear a leader says “Let us go, do…” not “You go, do…” This qualities or personal involvement/comment to things will not only attract people to them, but also multiply them. Develop your leadership skill and you will be a people person. You can read my post on “How To Become An Exceptional Leader.” to learn more.

2. Strong Communication Skill : this is very important as it is the life of every relationship. Ensure you get in touch with people that matters to you at least once in a week. You don’t call people only when you need them, or you will be driving them a way from you. And please learn to say the truth at all cost. Relationship built on lie is like a house built on sand, it will not last. It is also important to note that, you can never be a good communicator if you don’t know how to listen. To be a good listen and get along with people, you need to hear; what people say and want you to hear (verbal communication), what they say and do not want you to hear (semi verbal) and what they didn’t say but want you to hear (non verbal).

3. Ability to Appreciate Others : you don’t just appreciate people when they do you a favour, but also when they did something impressive, achieve something or even looks good. Everyone wants to be appreciated; we all naturally move closer to those who appreciate us. Appreciate others and they will not only love you but will be willing to help you to a fault. Mary Kay wisely stated, “Everyone want to feel appreciated, so if you appreciate someone or something, don’t keep it a secret.”

4. Knowing How to Forgive : people will always hurt and offend you, because they are limited, not perfect and human. You need to learn to forgive at all time. No matter how hurt you might be feeling, trust me it pays to forgive. Like my people do say, “The one, who did what pain you today, might do that which will pay you tomorrow.” Give people not just second chance, but third, fourth or maybe tenth… forgiveness is important to get along with people.

5. Living by the Golden Rule : there are several people skills one need to develop, but if you can successfully live by the "golden rule", you are as good as developing almost all the other skills. The "golden rule" is simply doing unto others what you want them to do to you or in other words, treat others the way you love to be treated. Don’t give what you can not take. You love to be respected, respect others. You want people to be honest with you, be honest. You like to see people support you, genuinely support others. Be to others all you want them to be to you. If we could all live by the “golden rule” imagine how wonderful our world would be. When we practice the golden rule, we will value and support other, we will offer genius help and be honest in all our dealings. The best way to be a people person is live by the “golden rule.”

Do all you can to get along with people and away remember you will never be able to go far if you are alone.
It is your season of divine turn around, stay focus and be positive.

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS IV

Success Digest

Week 11

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS IV

*An uncle of R. U. Darby was caught by the “gold fever” in the gold-rush days, and went west to dig and grow rich. He had never heard that more gold has been mined from the thoughts of men than has ever been taken from the earth. He staked a claim and went to work with pick and shovel.
After weeks of labour, he was rewarded by the discovery of the shining ore. He needed machinery to bring the ore to surface. Quietly, he covered up the mine, retraced his footsteps to his home in Williamsburg, Maryland, told his relatives and a few neighbours of the “strike.” They got together money for the needed machinery, and had it shipped. The uncle and Darby went back to work the mine.

The first car of ore was mined and shipped to a smelter. The returns proved they had one of the richest mines in Colorado! A few more cars of that ore would clear the debts. Then would come the big killing in profits.
Down went the drills! Up went the hopes of Darby and Uncle! Then something happened. The vein of the gold ore disappeared! They had come to the end of the rainbow, and the pot of gold was no longer there. They drilled on, desperately trying to pick up the vein again—all to no avail.
Finally, they decided to quit.

They sold the machinery to a junk man for a few hundred dollars, and took the train back home. The junk man called in a mining engineer to look at the mine and do a little calculating. The engineer advised that the project had failed because the owners were not familiar with “fault lines.” His calculations showed that the vein would be found just three feet from where the Darbys had stopped drilling! That is exactly where it was found! The junk man took millions of dollars in ore from the mine.

If you were one of the Darbys, what would you have done, haven discovered you stopped just three feet from the gold? How many projects have you abandon because you encountered some challenges. How many times have you given up on something or are you at the verge of giving up right now; think again, you might just be three feet away from your ‘gold’. There is nothing that is impossible for you to achieve, if you can learn not to ever give up. Everyone who had ever achieved any thing great or become successful in life, from Henry Ford to Winston Churchill, Thomas Edison, Jim Carrey, Colonel Sander, Oprah Winfrey, Abraham Lincoln, Wole Soyinka, Albert Einstein and host of others do so because they never gave up. This will be leading us to the next P of success – PERSISTENCE.

Persistence – The Fourth P of Success

Ordinary men can achieve extra-ordinary things if they can be persistent in their quest(s). Just as Buddha said, “In the confrontation between the stream and the rock, the stream always wins—not of strength, but through persistence. Persistence is very vital in achieving success in any thing. You will always found some challenges and failure on your way to accomplishing your dream(s). The only way you can stop those challenges from stopping you is by not giving up, no matter what. Because, Your problem quits, when you refuse to quit.
It is very natural to think of quitting when at some difficult situations, but you need to learn to hang on, if you want to succeed or accomplish anything in life. Let me give you some tips that will help you to be more persistence in any thing.

Helpful Tips

1. Know What You Want : you will never be able to be persistence if you are indecisive; you are into something today and tomorrow another thing entirely. So the first step to persistence is having a definite purpose. Decide at once what you really want and go all out for it.

2. Develop a Strong Desire to Succeed : Strong desire forces one to surmount many difficulties. Whatever you wish to accomplish, develop a strong desire for success in it. The more badly you want it, the more difficult it becomes for you to give up on it.

3. Belief in Yourself : Abraham Lincoln wisely stated, “That someone achieve great thing is a proof to all that others can achieve it as well.” If others can, you can; believe in yourself. We give up so easily most time because we lost faith in ourselves. Reassure yourself over and over again that you can do it and you will.

4. Be Discipline : Discipline, said Jim Rohn “is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.” If discipline is lacking in your quest for success, sooner or later your dream(s) will get stock in the “someday” Island and finally you give up. Do what you have to do at the right time, convenient or not. You can never be persistence without discipline.

5. Acquire the Right Knowledge : Very few thing will make a man quit so easily like ignorance. You will always struggle to be persistence if you are doing a guess work. Get accurate knowledge on what you are doing, and you will not only find it easier to do, but also difficult to give up on it.

6. Look for Men of Like Passion : I’m surrounded by amazing set of people who are focus and goal oriented. Their life has been a motivation to me; the passion with which they go about their dream always inspire me not to give up on anything. A wise man once said, “If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go in two. The right associate promotes persistence; you need to find one.

7. Try to Move Some Hills Before the Mountains : Your persistence power can be increased, and results are a very strong motivation for that to happen. Start with small goals, face the challenges and accomplish them. Accomplishing them sends a positive signal to your subconscious mind, which will help increase your will power. So when you are face with bigger challenges in your pursuit of greater goals, you will most likely not give up.

If you try something and it fails or seem as if it not working, try again, again and again, keep doing it, don’t stop trying until it is working. Show me a man that is not persistence in his ways and I will show you a man that can not be successful in anything. Never give up, hang on, you might be only three feet away from your “gold.”

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS III

Success Digest
with Olusegun Samson G.

Week 9

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS III

This week, we will be looking at another vital P of success; when you have this P, you become unstoppable, not even the threat of death will be strong enough to put you off your dream(s). You want to know what it is. Not to worry, we will get to that shortly. Before then, let me point out clearly that,

the longest route to success is short cuts. This is so because there are no true short cuts to success. Real success don’t come cheaply; the greater the success the greater the price to be paid. So many people have been infected this days with what I call the, “makes it quick and anyhow” fever. They want to make it now; they don’t care how it will happen or what it will cause them, in extreme cases they are even ready to kill. At initial stage of this infection it will look as if all is well and then get worst with time. This fever has destroyed many visions and claims the life of thousands. Beware! Mark my words, success that is achieved in an hurry will go in an hurry, because you will lack the power to maintain it. The power to maintain success are gotten from the experience that come with following the necessary process and paying the due price. B. C. Forbes, the founder of Forbes magazine wisely stated, “A price has to be paid for success. Almost invariably those who have reach the summits worked harder and longer, studied and planned more assiduously, practiced more self-denial, overcome more difficulties than those of us who have not risen so far.”

The Rabbit one day met the Snail on the road and ridiculously asked the slow animal, “are you sure you can get to your destination with this way you are working?” The snail smile and reply, “ If only you know where I was coming from, you will not be asking if I can get to where I’m going.” You might not be where you want to be. But the truth is, you are not where you use to be. Never seek a short cut, follow due process ( plan, work diligently, be discipline, study hard, go for training, learn leadership, build healthy relationships, and so on); if you can come this far, you will get there. Don’t be intimidated by the success of your peers, but rather let them inspire you to succeed too. They might be saying all sort of things about you now, don’t worry they will all celebrate you when you succeed. I strongly believe you will.
Personally I’m still far from where I’m going, but taking short cuts is never going to be an option. It a question of time I will get there; a time is coming, not far from now that it will be difficult for even a governor to be able to secure my attention. You will achieve your dreams too, you will attain that height you envisions, it might seems far away, you will get there; be patient, consistent and never, never seek short cuts. Remember, there are no short cuts to any place worth going. The next P of Success we will be looking at is, ‘PASSION.’

PASSION – The Third P of Success

The road to success is lined with many, obstacles, discouragement, failure and other challenges, but if you have passion all those will not be able to stop you. This is why passion is a vital ‘P’ of success. No matter how great the obstacles may be, your passion will keep you going. Determination without passion always leads to frustration. Almost nothing great has ever been accomplished without passion. After several failed attempt, it is only passion for success that must have kept Thomas Edison going. Think of Nelson Mandela; he was so passionate about his fight against Apartheid in South Africa that he was willing to die for it. Little wonder why he succeeded at it. He once publicly said, “I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and achieve. But if need be, it is a ideal for which I am prepared to die.” Show me a successful man and I will show you a man full of passion for a definite course. Passion is very important, whatever you want to achieve in life be passionate about it, as it will give you the energy that will keep you going.

John C. Maxwell, leadership expert once said, “Passion is the fuel for will—If you want something badly enough, you will find the will power to achieve it and you won’t stop trying until you do,” Let me give you some tips that would help you develop your passion.

Helpful Tips

- Act it Out: Just like Jean-Paul Sartre said, “We must act out passion before we can feel it.” Put in more energy into whatever you are doing than is required, put your mind, body and soul into it and you will feel the passion. There is no limit to how passionate we could become about achieving our dream, but we need to put in deliberate efforts.

- Look for Men of Like Passion: Passion is contagious; one of the ways to develop your passion for what you do is to associate yourself with people of great passion. If you have ever watch football match live at the stadium, you will understand how contagious passion could be; even if you don’t too like football, the passion of others will help you develop one for it too. Look for those who are very passion about what they do; your association with them will help you develop your passion.

- Dare Great Things: Nelson Mandela wisely observed, “There is no passion to be found playing small – in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” You can never develop your passion if you choose to settle for an average life. The greater things you want to achieve, the more challenges you have to face and the more passionate you become. Passion flows naturally when you pursuing a great course.

- Focus on the Fulfillment Accomplishing your Dreams will Bring: When your focus is on the crown, you will be passionate about going to the cross. Think of the lives that will be impacted and the glory that lies ahead of you and you will cheerfully face whatever challenges that may come the way of fulfilling your dream. Your passion will grow greatly, if you can shift focus for ‘now’ to the ‘after now.’

I will like you to meditate on the statement of Steve Job, the Apple’s boss as I conclude, “You have to be burning with an idea, or a problem, or a wrong that you want to right. If you’re not passionate enough from the start, you’ll never stick it out?”
Grow your passion and your obstacles will become invisible and you, unstoppable.

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS II

Success Digest
with Olusegun Samson G.

Week 8

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS II

This is not a funny period for most Nigerians and the masses are complaining bitterly. So I will like to address some National issues before we go into the Second ‘P’ of Success. Please, Mr. Raji Fashola, SAN, the honourable Minister of Power, can you explain to Nigerians the common sense in increasing electricity tariff without improving power supply; the light/power supply has worsen and at times we don’t even see it for days. Electricity Distribution Companies, it is a simple business sense that, ‘money answers to values;’ if you give us a more stable power supply we will gladly pay our bills not minding the increment in tariff.

Mr. President, we didn’t know that your promise of making N1 to equal $1 was ironical! This continuous fall of naira needs urgent and serious attention. Because it is making life difficult for so many Nigerians; even the fermented locus beans seller in the market will tell you that dollar is high, as this is becoming their anthem in the market place. I want to appeal to the government to call an emergency meeting of financial and economy gurus and let them come up with a sustainable solution to our economy challenges. Let’s work on how exchange rate will move to N50 per $1 by 2017. This is very possible if the government will come up with and implement the right policies, with a corresponding cooperation of all Nigerians.

The effort of this present administration to fight corruption is very laudable and a sign of a better Nigeria. But PMB, I would like to draw your attention to the old saying, ‘charity begins at home.’ To build more credibility in your fight again corruption, Senator Bukola Saraki needs to face the law as touching all those charges against me. Let EFCC probe Mr. Rotimi Amechi on the corrupt allegations against him by the people and government of his state and let all the corrupt individuals in the APC be invited too. Because one question Nigerians are asking is, ‘are all APC members corruption free?’ if no, let us see them be investigated too and those guilty brought to face the law.

Finally, before going into the Second P of Success, there is one deadly virus that is impeding the growth of our nation in all areas; from power failure to poor economy, bad infrastructure, unmotorable roads, falling educational standard, unsustainable development, name it. And the most painful thing is that most Nigerians are infected by the virus. Therefore, it becomes paramount for us to kill this virus and stop its further spread, if we want to move forward as a nation. This deadly virus I’m referring to is ‘Greediness.’ With no reserve apology, some greedy individuals are behind the slackness in the 2016 budget. Most manufacturers and business owners out of greediness produce and offer poor quality products and place high price on them. Politicians out of greediness, neglect their duty of serving people to seek dubious mean of making themselves and their children richer. Even some religious leaders has device various means of exploiting their member; greediness! People will be awarded contract and out of greediness will offer very poor services, so as to making more money. The fact is, greediness is become an epidemic in our society and we need to stop it. Let each and everyone of us be concern about our nation’s development and put the interest of others at heart in whatsoever we are doing or want to do; you don’t have to exploit people to be rich. If we can all go for the vaccine for this virus which is ‘Selflessness,’ our nation will rule the world. Nigeria has the potential to be the largest economy nation in the world, but we all need to come together and kick greediness out of our society. Let it be written everywhere; government house, churches, mosques, schools, offices, car stickers and every other place it could be seen, “SAY NO TO GREEDINESS” or “I HATE GREEDINESS,” and let’s teach our children to be selfless. Please let’s all take this to heart, ‘greatness is not about how much wealth you are able to accumulates for yourself, but rather your positive contribution to humanity and the legacy you lays.’

The next P of success we will be looking at this week is ‘PLANNING.” Every individual or organization that want to succeed need to have something on paper on what they want to accomplish per time; this is refer to as planning. Our plans direct our daily routine and the secret of every successful people is in their plans. The reason why many don't have plans for their life is because they are yet to discover their purpose; this is why Purpose is the first P of success. It’s when you know where you are going (purpose) that you begins to work on how you will get there (planning). So, behind every solid plan is a solid vision that is birth out of purpose. When you have plans, success becomes so cheap. Planning give you a sense of direction in life and it is difficult to make appreciable progress without it. Ask people who have ever achieved something remarkable in life and they will tell how long they’ve be planning for it. What’s your own plan and are you committed to it? Personally, I’ve benefited greatly from the power of planning, and it’s another thing every successful people have in common. Presently I have on paper 50years plan for my life, which makes me unstoppable. Why? Because our plan set us on motion and speed us to our destination. You can accomplish any thing in life if you can use well this second P of Success.

There are people who has plans but they fail. Some organizations and governments are even faced with the challenge of implementing their plans. So, let’s look briefly at some key steps to successful planning. Before then, let me state clearly that, ’when you lack the ability to plan ahead, you will find yourself preoccupied with immediate issues and loose sight of your purpose or ultimate goals.’ This is why most managers fail to achieved their organization objectives and most individuals their dreams. Planning help you stay focus and ultimately achieving your aim(s).

Key Steps to Successful Planning

1. Clear Goal(s): If you miss this first step, you can not get the other steps correctly. Your goal needs to be quantifiable, consistent, realistic and achievable. The goal should be specific with an ultimate time-based; for example to achieve sales of $4m in three years.

2. The Programs: This is the systematic layout of steps and actions that will lead to the actualization of the set goal(s). It should cover resources, objectives, time-scales, deadlines, budget, and performance target. Basically, the programs set out the implementation plan.

3. Implementation: Almost everybody is good at making plans but very few implement their plans. What usually happened is this; we come up with brilliant plans put them down, go to our place of work/office, we get overwhelmed with daily details. Soon it’s ‘business as usual,’ the plans sit on the shelf or table and before we know it, another year has passed. This need not happen. For successful implementation of your plans the following keys are non-negotiable;
- Ardent Commitment: you need to commit your time, resources, energy and intellect to it. Do some researches, attend seminars and workshop related to what you are working on and you could equally get some materials to read; by so doing you are putting into it, your intellectual commitment.
- Credibility: Your plan needs to be well documented and legacy oriented. Adherence to the complete process is non-negotiable and if you have a team that is working with you on the implementation of the plan, ensure there is a representative participation. If you do all this, you will not only create credibility for your plans, you will be sustaining it as well.
- Effective Communication: you need to ensure each person involved in the implementation of the plans can understand and hear you clearly; assumption can be very dangerous. Emphases and repeat key words and be passionate about the plan.
Ensure your personal commitment is 100%, no matter how good your team is, if you want a successful implementation of your plans. Don’t forget to review your plan from time to time and make appropriate adjustment.

I see you accomplishing those beautiful goals as you stay committed.

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS

Success Digest
with Olusegun Samson G.

Week 7

THE FIVE Ps OF SUCCESS

Anybody can achieve success in anything, if the principle that guarantee success in such a thing are identified and followed. This is so because, principle are not respecter of any man. I was speaking to a group of teenagers some months back on success and I asked them, ‘if a beggar should jump from a five storey building, what will happen?’ They all echoed, ‘He will died or breaks his leg with several injury on his body.’ I responded ‘OK’ and asked further, what if a king jumps from that same storey building? ‘He will die or breaks his leg too.’ They all shouted. I paused for a while, silence was in the class and they all gaze at me with curiosity boldly written on their faces. Then I said to them, you believe their experience will be similar because they will be breaking the same principle (law of gravity). Which mean principles are not respecter of person. In a solemn manner I ask these young chaps, why then did you believe the lies that your background will affect your success in life and success is met for some selected few? If anybody can, you can; you only need to follow principles. To bring about a paradigm shift in them, I added, success is met for all; everyone you see that is successful today employ some set of principles. If you follow those same principles, it will produce for you the same result they got from it irrespective of your background or current state just as that principle of gravity affect the beggar and the king equally.

The principles of success are not hidden and yet few are they that are achieving success. This is so because many are not willing to follow the principles of success, most people just sit down and hope for a wonder to happen someday. If you want to be successful in anything, you don’t wait to see or watch thing happen; you make things happen. The five Ps of success will help you make things happen. These five Ps are universal and can be found common among every successful individual. The Five Ps of Success is going to take us five weeks to cover as we will be looking at one P per week. Make sure you don’t miss any of the series. This week I will be sharing with us the first P, ‘Purpose.’

PURPOSE - The First P of Success

When you lack purpose for a course or generally for life, you are like a man digging the ground, who when asked why he is digging the ground, sweating and breathing hard responded, ‘Nothing, I only want to be hard working.’ You will say, the man must be foolish or mad? If that is true, it means we have so many mad people with nice clothes roaming about our streets, they have no definite purpose they are pursuing in life; just busy for nothing. Going about life without purpose is a complete madness. Nothing is as frustrating as to be on the go without a goal. It is not how hard working you are that will makes you to be successful, but your pursuit of a definite purpose. Purpose is the strongest motivation for success; when you know and understand why something needs to be done, you don't need external motivation to get it done. CEOs and Business Owners, please note, it is very important you ensure your staff understand fully the purpose of you organization/establishment, as this will enhance productivity; when they understand ‘why’, it becomes easier for them to understand the ‘how.’ As no one who box the air will be champion, only those who are purpose driving will achieve success in their endeavour.

Seneca wisely observed, “To the person who does not know where he wants to go, there is no favourable wind.” It is difficult for someone without purpose in life to see an opportunity even if it’s right in front of him, because our purpose influences our vision.
Four persons pass by a mountain; a businessman, a mountaineer, a pastor and a simple man. The Businessman looks at it and saw a recreation center, an opportunity to build a financial fortune for himself. The Mountaineer saw an opportunity to make history by been the first person to climb it. The Pastor saw a praying ground. And the simple man saw nothing but a big mountain and move on. Life has lot of opportunities to offer but you will never be able to see them until you discover your purpose.

Take note, it is never too late for you to discover your purpose and do what you are here (on earth) to do, so never give up on yourself until you loose your last breath and have no more life in you. However, it is of the very best to discover your purpose on time; timely discovery is vital for striking accomplishment in life. Let me share with you three tips that will help you in purpose discovery.

- Develop Your Mental Capacity: Research has proved that we can never be better that the way we think. The good new is, we can control the way we think by engaging in things that will help channel our thought toward what we want. Two things influence the way we think; what we see and what we hear. This is why you must be careful of what you expose your eyes and ears to.
To develop your mental capacity you need to read wide, not just any book, but such that will inspires and educate you. The more you read, the more better you become, you get more brilliant ideas and develop your potentials. Books are a very good aid for purpose discovery, because they help activate some great things in your inside. After reading a good book, you will find yourself thinking better and wanting to achieve something great. The reason why some are yet to discover their purpose is ignorance; ignorance put one in darkness, that you hardly see anything. But when you go for knowledge, it’s like a man in darkness who reaches his hand to a touch and switch on the light, and can now see everything clearly.
If you want to discover your purpose, go for knowledge; read that book, attend that conference/training workshop, listen to that audio book/teaching, and do all you can to be well informed.

- Look for your work: We are all here (on earth) on assignment, which is met to finish only when we died. This assignment is your work and you need to find it. You need to ask yourself, what am I willing to do even if I’m not going to get paid for it and be so passionate about that only death could stop me from doing it? When you find it, you find your work. Your work is not for you self gain, but a contribution to humanity. We are all here to make our contribution, not to be a burden to others.
Our world is full of so many problem because most of us that have been destined to solve those problem are not doing our work, some are even yet to discover it. In between what you have passion for and what you hate the most to see happen to people or around you, lies the problem you are born to solve (your work). There are several problems in the society, which of them are you concern about the most, you hate to see it and wish you could do something about it? That could be a point to your work.
If all you seek is just a better life for yourself, it will be very difficult for you to find your work. But the more you think of how you could be of impact to your world and make life easier for others, the easier it become for you to find your work. Remember, when you find your work, you have discovered your purpose.

- Consult the Manufacturer: This is the most important step you need to take to discover your purpose, because no one knows a product better than the manufacturer. We are the product and God is the manufacturer, and He had a purpose in mind while creating each of us. So to get the most out of your life, you need to connect with God. Pray to God to open your eye and mind to His purpose for your life; He will surely answer you.

VALUES THAT TRANSFORM NATIONS II

WEEK 6

Values That Transform Nations II

Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you live and work. They determine your priorities and define who you are. The way we react to things and our approach to live is influence by our value system. The values that transform nations, when embrace will not only make our nation better, it will equally help you to achieve outstanding success in your personal endeavours. Do go over the last publication again and set out plan on how you will develop those values that has been highlighted add to those we will be looking at shortly for personal effectiveness. Our nation is where it is today because most of us are less concern about her development and I want us to have a change of attitude. Don’t give up on the nation; show some concern, believe in things getting better, stay away from things that will pull her down. When you seek the good of your nation, you seek your own betterment, as well as that of your children and generation yet to come.

One question that’s in the heart of many all over the world is, ‘why is the poverty level of a blessed nation like Nigeria so high?’ Answers such as poor leadership, greediness of politicians, illiteracy, among others quickly come to mind on pondering on that question. It is time we all come together, putting aside our ethnic background and sing just one song; ‘Transformation’. Most of the fools that are in the affairs of government today who are ‘brain death’ and seek mainly things that appeal only to there selfish interest, will put themselves to order or even resign, if the masses will stop folding there arms and boldly challenge them. The power still belong to the people; president, governors and all other public office holder are not your lord, but are there to serve you, if they are not serving you well, fire them. I heard a governor speak few days ago and I shook my head, because he could only talk that way because people in this part of the world has not come to the consciousness of their power. Don’t be intimidated by any politician, fight for what is right and advocate for National Transformation. Now let’s quickly look at some more values and round it off for this week.

Values We Need To Embrace For National Transformation.

1. ORDERLINESS: If our life and our nation must be better, the need for order and symmetry is very essential. Edmund Burke wisely stated, “Good order is the foundation of all great things”. Disaster is not always far from where there is disorderliness. Most of those traffic and even accident on some of our roads could be averted if car owners would display orderliness. In whatsoever we do let’s ensure orderliness is in place for outstanding success to be recorded. Always remember that everything has a place and time. The truth is nothing,(including national transformation, family development, wealth creation etc) is practically achievable where there is no order.

2. SELFLESSNESS: The shortness route to greatness is selflessness. On till you think of what you can do for others, you might not be able to do anything for yourself. The corrosion of the value, ‘selflessness’ among political leaders and government officials have deteriorate our economy to a very large extent. If we will all embrace selflessness and seek the best for other, not just ourselves, this nation will be a paradise. Go and check the history, those who were truly great in life was those who were sold out to seek better life for others. Selflessness is a very important value that must be embrace by all for national transformation.

3. INTEGRITY: Many of us do what is right only when we are watched; who we are when no one is watching will tell if we have integrity or not. People with integrity only do what is right, not what is convenient. If our nation wishes to command more respect among other nations of the world, then we must all (both government and the people) develop the value of integrity. We all need to choose our thought and actions based on values rather than personal gain. Integrity is essential for both achieving one’s desired success in life and transforming the nation.

4. LOVE: this is a season of love and the best time to talk about love. Love is a relative term and means different thing to different people as it has several school of thought. Love is not just a feeling as generally believe by most people, it is a choice: you can love the person you hate the most in life, if you choose to do so. In other word, anyone can be loveable, it all depend on what you want. If you have ever been in a long relationship before, or you are married, you will agree with me that those feelings don’t last; after you have been together for awhile, seen each others weakness, and those things that use to be appealing no long do. The only thing that will keep the relationship going is your choice to love your partner or spouse. Several times I hear young people confess,” I don’t seem to love him/her any more”. What they are saying is that they no longer have feelings for that person. Feeling is never enough, so you need to choose to love your partner at all time. Our focus today is not on relationship, I will talk more on that when we are treating relationship, let’s go back to our subject, Values that Transform Nations. For us to live together as one, love need to dwell among us; progress is always retarded where there is no oneness. Let’s love one another, and be very passionate about our nation. It is very difficult to hurt intentionally someone you love. Those in the affair of government should show love for the people by offering selfless services and declining from doing things that will affect the masses negatively. Let the people equally show love for the government by been cooperative and praying constantly for them.

By a way of conclusion, let me point out clearly that, no matter the political manipulation, foreign influence etc, Nigeria will experience transformation; I can see it coming. If you think it is not going to be possible, please stay out of the way of those who believe it and are ready to commit themselves to see it happen. Nigeria is a great country by destiny; it’s only a question of time she will get to the fullness of her potential. so when you wake up in the morning ask yourself ,”what can I do to make my country better?” and when you want to go to bed ask; what have I contributed today to the building of my nation?
Nigeria will survive, Africa will be great!

VALUES THAT TRANSFORM NATIONS

WEEK 4

Values That Transform Nations

With the way things are in our nation today, there is a serious need for national transformation in our economy, governance, policy and others. And this transformation can't just be pray down; both citizens and government has roles to play to see it turns to a reality. What most people do is to sit back and blame the government for everything. And the truth is our day to day activities and actions even as individual is either destroying our nation or building it. More so, those in the affairs of government today are product of the society; the incumbent president of the country is raised in a family within a community, and the fact is the way of live of the people in such community will have an influence on his life style. The point I’m drive at is that, if we desire a better governance our society need to be better, and for our society to be better each of us as it member need to change for the better in both our way of thinking and bahaviour.

Every nation is define by the values it hold dear. As an advocate of national transformation, I have come to discover that, if our nation will be transformed, we need to redefine our values. There are values that transform nations, which must be adopted by government, citizens and inhabitants of this nation. Let’s consider some of them together:

Values We Need to Embrace for National Transformation

1. PUNCTUALITY : ‘Time is money’ they say. Any nation that does not place value on time will be loosing great resource on daily bases. We need to abolish ‘Africa time’ as it is drawing us back among other nations. Let everyone embrace punctuality and be frank with individuals who do otherwise.
In 1748, while advising a young Tradesman, Benjamen Frankline made this powerful statement, “Remember that time is money. He that can earn ten shillings a day by his labour, and goes abroad, or sits idle one half of that day, though he spends but sixpence during his diversion or idleness, it ought not to be reckoned the only expense: he hath really spent or thrown away five shillings besides.” It is very important we place more value on time; every single act of idleness has a negative effect on our economy. The government also needs to put in their every best to minimize traffic on our roads. Those minor road adjustments could be done at night when there will be fewer vehicles on the road, so as to ensure free movement during the day. It’s important for all to wake up early and do what needs to be done at the right time. Let’s be punctual to meetings, work, appointments e.t.c. Join me in my campaign against unpunctuality and together let’s say no to ‘Africa time.’

2. TRUTHFULNESS : Another core value of national transformation is truthfulness. Trust dose not exist where there is no truthfulness, there is no teamwork without trust and if we can not work together, we will not be able to progress. Where there is no truthfulness, exploitation will be the order of the day. The erosion of truthfulness in any nation will always inhibit development in such nation. Henry David Thoreau wisely stated, “Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth.” For our nation to experience the transformation we seek, each of us (government and citizen alike) need to be truthful at all time, in business transactions, relationship, e.t.c.

3. EXCELLENT : Most Africa countries are lacking behind because of the absence of this core value, ‘Excellent.’ We need to strive for the best and put in our best in all we do. If you are a doctor, be a doctor per excellent, if you are an Engineer, strive for excellent; in whatever you do, be the best. Let those in the affairs of government offer our nation the best infrastructure, and social amenities; don’t give us just anything, give us the best or forget it. When you travel to well develop countries, the beauties you see there speaks of excellent and it could be replicated in our country too. We need to kill the ‘anything goes’ spirit in us and make commitment for ‘it’s the best or nothing else.’ Let our government wakeup to the fact that things are changing fast and technology is seriously advancing and put an excellent touch to whatever they are doing for the nation. We all need to come together to do something about the slip of standard in our society. Let’s replace mediocrity with excellent in our education, health facility, infrastructure, governance, e.t.c. Say no today, to ‘Good enough’ and embrace ‘Excellent.’ Our nation shall be transformed.

4. INNOVATION : I have not see a nation that kills innovation as ours. Our societies no longer encourage innovations, what we celebrate is fun and entertainment. So many programs are out there that offer millions of naira to some idle individuals who even lack character, just because they could sing and hundreds of innovations are wasting away; we seriously need to value innovations around there. The government or some industrialists could come up with a platform for people to showcase how innovative they are and sponsor the best innovations. This will inspire a lot of people in our nation to be innovative. Let’s be innovative in our thinking and seek how things could be done better in our various fields. Let there be a continuous search for new and better ideas in all sectors of the nation.

5. RESPECT : We need to respect ourselves, the rule of law and our nation in general. Let’s learn to show mutual respect for all. Distance yourself from anything that would affect the self esteem of anyone. Let bosses show mutual respect for the subordinates, parents for children, husbands for their wives and government for the people and vice versa. In an environment of respect, there is always sense of belonging and people find it very easy to team up to achieve set goal(s). Let’s have respect for our laws with no one been above the law. Let the same law which affect the poor and powerless also affect the rich and powerful; only then can our nation experience true transformation. Together let us work to build a culture of mutual respect in our nation. I charge all to sow a seed of respect today, so we could reap its fruits and our society will be better as abuse, rape and other social vices filters away.

National transformation requires the effort of all; start playing your part today. Watch out for the concluding part next week.
I see a new you emerging as you work to make this core values a part of you.
